I really don't know if you can do that since the other people can see you connected when you are playing a tournament or a game in the watch games tag if they put friends, if you don't want some people to see you connected just "unfriend" them I suppose.
You can ignore them when they talk to you if you have few moments to connect and just wanted to see a thing about a tournament or some video.
I don't think that noone will tell you anything for not answering.
