Bans for cheating - Country list

The list below shows the number of users banned for cheating (all types) per country grouped by continent. This list will be updated weekly.

One point to note, is that the list does -in a very big way- correspond to the number of users per country registered on ChessCube. However, just because your country may have a large number of registered users on ChessCube, it does not make a large number of banned users for cheating seem "OK" or acceptable. Use these numbers as an opportunity to encourage your fellow countrymen to quit cheating on ChessCube, it will be a win-win situation for your country and for all ChessCube users.

Re: Bans for cheating - Top country list

1. What is the point of a list by country?

Assuming list by country makes sense and is worthwhile checking out

2. Why would you compare the absolute number of cheaters?

Ex: a country like Philippines has higher number of cheaters because the number of registered users from that country is high and there would be a few "bad" guys, inevitably and unfortunately

On the face of it, a country like puerto rico might be considered a super honest nation as it is not mentioned in the list.

Is it because none in those non cheating reported nations cheat or is it because there are less registrations in those nations?

I would love to learn the reason for such comparisons and the logic behind absolute numbers.

On the face of it, this type of comparison and the way in which this comparison was presented (without taking all the factors into consideration) is superficial and quite insulting to the nations and the chess players of these nations.

Re: Bans for cheating - Top country list

I think Phew's comment is valid, and avpavan's suggestion goes some way towards addressing this (perhaps as a % of users ?).
I think it's desirable to give the published figures a context.

Re: Bans for cheating - Top country list

There is nothing incorrect about the list - it is what it is, interpret however you want to.
Adding context would be very problematic since many users from some countries (more often than not the leading ones in this list) also create many accounts - which both boosts the apparent registered user-base from that country and even boosts cheat numbers from that country (same user cheating multiple times), so to adjust for these compounding factors would be close to impossible.

If anything this list is just a simple reminder: we are monitoring cheats, we are monitoring their IP addresses and when we find a cheat, we will ban that cheat. Cheaters like to imagine that they are faceless nobodies in a massive Internet crowd, and sure, they truly are nobodies, but we have lots of data on them, at least to the country of origin and even to their very municpality in some cases.

If someone finds this list offensive, then be offended at cheats from your country - we are just publishing data, they are the scumbags doing the actual cheating. :naughty:
