ChessCube V7 Announcement & More

A new open-community Chess service built by you

We’re excited to announce that we’ve received early access to an exciting new project that will allow us (and you!) to design and visually build any application you can dream of.

We will be working closely with their project team to build the tools required to create a new chess engine, to create a world where you can not only contribute, but also create your own chess website or business.

This will also allow all active ChessCube users early access to a brand new chess service we’ll be launching in mid-2020. If you’ve signed in to ChessCube and played a game from 1 June 2019 to today, you’ll automatically have a reserved early access spot in our new website.

Your Cubits will be converted to an all new Cryptocurrency-based coin, the details of which can be found further down.

This open community project will be great for a host of individuals looking to create their own chess business. We’ll initially invite members of the ChessCube and wider chess community to working on the project who are:

  • Entrepreneurs
  • Developers/Coders (or technically minded individuals)
  • Designers

We’ll also invite users who have ideas for setting up their own chess tournaments, or chess schools, as well as users that have visions of creating their own online chess clubs.

We’ll also be educating members of our open community on how to use this new software, as well as having an open chat policy where you can request additional tooling, send suggestions and ask for help.

Our core team has agreed to fund an agreement with this open source project to build out all of our requirements for our chess world engine.

Realigning ChessCube for the future:

As excited as we are for rebuilding an entirely new online chess service with the help of you - the community, we also have to keep ChessCube in mind as we look ahead.

There has been a myriad of ideas on how to approach the running of ChessCube until we launch the new service. Here’s some information on ChessCube currently:
  • 2 million+ lines of code in the system
  • 4 million+ users in our database
  • 40 million user stats + activity entries
  • 370 million + game entries in database
    ..and many more
In this digital world we live in, where server hosting and computing power availability is all around us, we’d love to say that storing the above information is super cheap for us, but alas, it’s really not!

Having said that, we have two action points to keep ChessCube active until the new service launches.

The first action point would be to part with some of the data that we’re currently storing, and remove a few features of the application. This would involve:

  • Keeping an active game history for 7 days
  • Remove country and theme rooms and have language cafes only
  • Remove tournaments
  • Remove Leaderboards
  • Removing the “Crown” virtual currency
  • Remove the in-app store (inventory will stay)
We will also convert each Crown in your current ChessCube wallet to 100 Cubits, over the coming days.

This plan reduces our server costs slightly and allow us to have a more focussed, streamlined application going forward.

“CubitCoin” Cryptocurrency

We’ll be launching our cryptocurrency in early 2020. As of this time it’s an unnamed coin, but we’ll refer to it as the “CubitCoin” for now. This may not be the official name of the coin.

All active users on ChessCube, as previously mentioned, will receive their portion of the 10 million coins we’ll be launching.

We’ll break it down as follows:

Based on your Virtual Currency Balance at 27 September, you will receive this many CubitCoins:
  • 1 - 1,000 Cubits -> 1000 CubitCoin
  • 1,001 - 10,000 Cubits -> 5000 CubitCoin
  • 10,001 - 100,000 Cubits -> 10 000 CubitCoin
  • 100,000 - 500,000 Cubits -> 20 000 CubitCoin
  • 500,000 Cubits + -> 50 000 CubitCoin

Over time, users will be able to stake or sell their CubitCoins. CubitCoins will be used as the underlying currency layer on our new chess engine, meaning that you will be able to create your own chess service which handles your currency using the coin.

Of course, you’ll be able to your coins either in your own Crypto wallet, or use an internal wallet managed and secured by ourselves.

We have a massive ecosystem planned around the coins, and we’ll be announcing more information in the coming months as we continue to use the new software to build out our engine.
